Leonie is 15 years old. She leads a completely normal life, with her parents and her two brothers. But one day, everything changes for her - together with her friends, Leonie has a car accident. She is thrown out of the car and hurts her eyes so badly that she loses her sight. No hope exists that she will ever regain it. After a long period during which she lies in a coma, Leonie has to face her blindness. Feeling completely overwhelmed by the loss, Leonie rejects the help her family and friends offer and withdraws entirely into her own suffering.
But thanks to their subtle pressure and her own courage, Leonie starts very slowly to rely on her remaining, sharpened senses. She learns to deal with her disablement, to replace well-known simple acts by new actions; to rely on feeling, hearing, even smelling, where formerly she used to see. Leonie even manages to find love…
