Jana Frey was born in 1969. She started writing when she was only five years old. She studied literature, history and arts and founded a family. Jana Frey has published numerous books for children and adolescents and has been decorated with several awards for them. Many of her books have been translated into various languages.
Jana Frey's literary range covers picture books and novels for early readers as well as novels for adolescent readers. Jana Frey has met the adolescents whose fates she portrays in her "True Story"-books. Before she starts writing a half-documentary, she meets with the boys and girls and listens to their story. For Jana Frey, to listen to them is just as important as the writing as such. She succeeds in combining the true background story with fictitious elements - her nomination for the "German Adolescents Literature Award" (Deutscher Jugendliteraturpreis) with her title "Downward Flight" ("Höhenflug abwärts") bears evidence of her talent. In the spring of 2006, her well-researched and captivatingly written historic novel "Prügelknabe" attracted the critic's attention.
